Love is the Future: 2015 Favorites

101-Pluto-2015Favs_opt

It's that time of the year again when DJ Fundi goes digging through the past 12 months of music to find, then mix, the best 2015 had to offer. It was a shitty year in many ways: Paris, San Bernadino, Lebanon, refugee crisis, drought & wildfires, melting ice sheets, the murder of Cecil the Lion, Donald Trump. Luckily we have the balm of music to soothe our souls and take us away to our happy place, and this past year offered up a very wide variety of amazing releases. Sit back, put your feet up, nurse your hot toddy and escape in to this 90-minute mix made lovingly by the hands and heart of your friends at the Podcast Cafe...

The Thickness: Favorite Music of 2013

madiba31

Here's our annual review of the music that most moved, grooved, inspired or soothed us over the past year. As per usual, the Podcast Cafe serves up a diverse and tasty dish, with selections ranging from Americana and folk to funk and groove, rock n roll to an archive release of music recorded more than 50 years ago. Our friend from
Destination Burning Man, DJ Playaduster, joins DJ Fundi here and there to share some of the most original sounds from the world of electronic music too.

This 92nd episode from the Podcast Cafe is dedicated to the example and memory of Nelson Mandela. (The voice samples you'll hear in the mix are from the speech
Madiba gave upon being freed from jail after 27 years.)

We hope you enjoy and Happy New Year!

Winter Solstice 2009 Retrospective

Our annual look back at the year in music, spinning tunes that have inspired, perplexed, soothed, challenged and/or forced us to shake our booty and reprogram our bass chakra protocols. DJ Fundi is joined here and there by his compadre/alter ego DJ Playaduster -- you'll know when Playaduster takes over the decks. Because 2009 was such a strong year for music making -- is there more good music then ever before, or simply more ease of access via the interwebs and iTunes? -- this session clocks in just shy of 2 hours, so you best get yerself comfortable with a warm winter beverage in hand.

"Winter Solstice 2009 Retrospective" includes selections by The xx, Andrew Bird, Beirut, Phoenix, Neko Case, Built to Spill, Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver, Fever Ray, Heyoka, Bassnectar, ill.gates, Welder, The Mountain Goats, Iron & Wine, Grizzly Bear, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Yim Yames, The Avett Brothers, Joker, DJ Rupture, Zero 7, M. Ward, Tinariwen, Nirvana and Andras Schiff paying Bach. You can read my full list of Top 10 albums, honorable mentions and biggest disappointments on
the Fundiblog.

What music most inspired you in 2009? Anything I missed? Feedback and tips left in comments are much appreciated!

The Glogg Chronicles : 2008 in Review

A sound-smoothie made from my most favorite sound-nutrients of the past year; favorite artists, dopest tracks, weirdest records: all blended up just for you! Starts off pretty mellow, but by the time Bassnectar winds up his clock, things start pumpin' pretty damn hard, with funky flourishes to end on...

Featuring Flying Lotus, Erykah Badu, Gnarls Barkley, Al Green, Bob Dylan, Cat Power, Fleet Foxes, Q-Tip, The Roots, Jamie Lidell, Stephen Malkmus, The B-52's, Beats Antique & Bassnectar, Dust + Blackdown, DJ/rupture, Bon Iver, Esau Mwamwaya & Radioclit, DJ Scruff, Ani Difranco, Amadou & Mariam, K'naan, Nina Simone, Thievery Corporation & Quantic, y'all. Dig it correct!

Love, DJ Fundi
