The Playa Portraits Project

For the two Burning Mans I've been fortunate enough to attend, I chose to participate by taking spontaneous, of-the-moment portraits of Burners cavorting around Black Rock City. I called my efforts, which were assisted by others at times, the Playa Portraits Project. At Burning Man, I biked around the playa with a bunch of old picture frames collected from thrift stores, pulling them along behind me in a wagon, and asked my "models" to chose their own frame and do whatever they felt like with it. In 2004, I took portraits with several disposable cameras and scanned them in to my computer; in 2007, I brought down my digital (it's never worked quite the same since).

I never created a way to share the portraits with all of the beautiful people who posed for me, and hope that this video will reach some of them and bring back good memories. If you see yourself or someone you know in this movie, let me know! djfundi@podcastcafe

Higher resolution version of this movie, along with other artifacts of the 2004 & 2007 burn, can be viewed at my other webpage,
Destination Burning Man, in the Films section.
