I have such profound and deep-felt respect and awe for Cobain & Co’s gifts as musicians, poets and avatars and this recent journey through words and music has made me appreciate anew what this powerhouse trio brought to the world. I’m continually amazed that they were only together a handful of years and only produced three studio albums, and I can’t help but wonder what Kurt would have done in following years had he kept himself alive. There is a new level of artistry and sophistication that comes through on In Utero-era recordings, as if he was only starting to bloom, and his self-inflicted early exit stands as a great tragedy for rock n roll.

This mix pulls together tracks from Bleach, Nevermind and In Utero (mostly demos, B-sides, alt takes, etc) as well as their live albums (Reading, Portland 1989, Seattle Paramount Halloween 1991) and With the Lights Out box set.

Namaste Kurt. Here’s to hoping you’ve found your peace, and thanks for all the power chords, broken guitars and screams.

Much of this podcast is shrouded in mystery and codes, but it appears to be a missive sent from the outer fringes of our solar system, a musical message that originates from the proto-comet Chiron.

Discovered in 1977 in its eccentric orbit between Saturn and Uranus, Chiron is known in some circles as the "Rainbow Bridge" or "Wounded Healer," a humble, benevolent guide that can assist humans by keeping us moving forward on our proper spiritual paths. In early February 2011, Chiron entered the watery realm of Pisces, activating the pure power of potential, the manifestation of the unconscious and transformative healing through (re)union with the divine.

The frequencies found in this podcast are believed to have originated from Chiron, with DJ Playaduster serving as a musical midwife in order that they be perceived by the human ear and widely disseminated through our dBM channels.

Contributing artists include Bill Laswell, Rena Jones, Phaelah, Tipper, Heyoka, James Blake, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, DJ/rupture, Kim Hiorthoy, Ezekiel Honig, Yo-Yo Ma, Shackleton, PantyRaid and Thriftworks, with vocal musings from Joni Mitchell, Timothy Leary, Hekter McElliott, Pema Chodron and the Tangerines.

...At least that was the case until another bust out cover, "Nights in White Satin," came to fruition. This original Moody Blues tune had not been played in 2,422 shows, or since 10/9/87, whichever is easier to grasp. The bluesy rendition was filled with the raspy vocals of Bell repeating, "Oh, how I love you" as though he was paying tribute to the attentive, fun loving, and long enduring crowd.

...Set two brought about some profoundly heavy songs, including "Worry," "Imitation Leather Shoes," "Blight," "You Got Yours," and "Impossible." In the middle of all this, there was still room for another bust out that again paid tribute to the band that started it all, the Grateful Dead, and a cover that had not seen the light of day since 1989, "New Speedway Boogie."

With the particularly telling line, "I don't know but I've been told it's hard to run with the weight of gold, on the other hand I've heard it said it's just as hard with the weight of lead," it was as though Widespread was summing up their career and moreover life itself.

...The show would close with a seldom-seen double encore consisting of Neil Young's "Don't Be Denied" followed by "Postcard," "Driving Song > "Breathing Slow" and the traditional "Porch Song." It was a classy way of finishing up what will certainly be looked upon as an epic run in the Classic City.

As the first set of the anniversary tour was underway it was clear that this initial performance had not been forgotten. An opening trio of "For What it's Worth," "Sleepy Monkey," and "Chilly Water" hinted at a possible repeat performance of that first Widespread union.

..."This Cruel Thing," a song by the recently deceased Vic Chesnutt was played with elegance, and Boston's female vocals truly added to the song's emotional depth.

The rest of the night was filled with well played classic songs like "Jack," "Space Wrangler" and "Coconut," but nobody was prepared for the bubbly bass line that came out of the lateral drum interplay between Sunny Ortiz and Todd Nance. The Grateful Dead's "Fire on the Mountain," a bomb that slapped the crowd across the face, had not been played since 10/2/88. ... Front man John Bell came with a full out "Fire on the Mountain" rap as Jimmy Herring's guitar wailed as if he was harnessing Jerry Garcia, while Dave Schools held down the low end with his wizardry on the bass.

...This veteran outfit was not only out to celebrate a career, but to do so in a manner that demonstrated a retrospective glance and provided evidence that nothing has been lost in the long strides and shorts sprints that span a quarter of a century....

The music you hear throughout the city at night is vibrating through your bass chakras and you don't know where the DJ ends and you begin anymore.

...This mix reflects that by veering in to a Tanjalove-inspired pocket of funk and soul healing, grooves that both reflect and enhance the love that is filling your heart to overflowing: "Erotic City", "Take My Heart (You Can Have It)", "Simply Beautiful", "Love to Love You Baby", "You Make Me Smile" and "Sexual Healing."

...On Saturday, the Man falls right around the time that your last bit of protective armor, fear & sadness fall away, and you give in to full Loveness. A mobile soundsystem, crowned with a glowing, beating heart, plays "Love is in the Air" at the exact moment as the sun rises over the eastern horizon on Sunday morning. Bliss reigns, friends swirl, mimosas bubble, hearts swell and you dissolve in to sunlight with your dusty Beloved in your arms.

...Sade returns with another take on "Soldier of Love" to show you how far you and your wounded heart have traveled through the week; The Cinematic Orchestra reprises your theme song, "To Build a Home"; Bassnectar & Nelly Furtado conclude the entire affair with a wise reminder: "And I say follow me, follow me, follow me / Down, down, down, down / 'Til you see all my dreams / Not everything in this magical world / is quite what it seems."

Several sunsets found me and Hannah Tangerine getting down 'n dirty beneath the disco ball with a frosty fruity cocktail in hand, surrounded by some of the happiest, lovingest Burners we encountered all week long. The Pink Mammoth sessions inspired a renewed passion for disco and house music, happy music, love music, and I tried to represent this in the first half of Joyism.

...You'll hear this happen when the Love Committee gives way to the freakbeat bass music of Opiuo -- a DJ from Australia who played his first-ever playa set midweek at Entheon Village, on the heels of weird wobblie grooves from Heyoka and Vibesquad. Opiuo was my favorite new discovery on playa this year, and so gets two different tracks in this mix -- one ultra-funky, one deep, dark and strange like BRC at 4 am.

So, the second half takes the listener on a tour of a night spent freaking out and grooving in whomp domes all night, receiving Bass Chakra Therapy from the best soundsystems anywhere in the world, and concludes with two remixes from An-ten-ae. An-ten-ae looms large in Get Found's collective memory as the DJ who introduced us to the Wall of Whomp at Root Society Thursday night. He opened up his outrageous set with a Black Sabbath song retooled for the playa and pretty much melted the entire audiences' mind with these glitched-out power chords and Ozzy yowls.

Pretty much every song in this mix is meaningful to me in some way or another, whether because of the groove, the memory I associate with it, the lyrics or even just the song title. I will spare you all the details here, but know that this mix, especially by opening with "To Build a Home" and "Soldier of Love," is thoroughly intentional, completely infused with loving vibrations from the heart, dusty at the edges and crafted especially for my peoples at Camp Get Found.

<itunes:author>DJ Playaduster</itunes:author><itunes:subtitle>"I'm a soldier of love / all the days of my life..."</itunes:subtitle><itunes:summary>"There is a house built out of stone
Wooden floors, walls and window sills...
Tables and chairs worn by all of the dust..
This is a place where I don't feel alone
This is a place where I feel at home.......

Cause, I built a home
for you
for me

Until it disappeared
from me
from you

And now, it's time to leave and turn to dust…….."

The Cinematic Orchestra open up this musical mix with a beautiful and emotive song that speaks to me in these days and weeks after Burning Man 2010 : "To Build a Home." It has multiple layers of meanings for me and stirs me in places deep down inside.

Sade provides the second track in the "opening statement" of the podcast, livening up the mood with another song that is rich with meaning for me these days. I heard a DJ slyly drop in to a dance party on the playa, and I sang along to the chorus with all the lovely people on the dancefloor at the top of our lungs, "I've been torn up inside (oh!) / I've been left behind (oh!) / So I ride / I have the will to survive. I'm a solider of love / all the days of my life...."

With those 2 opening salvos behind us, the mix moves in to the first movement, inspired by the Pink Mammoth. You'll hear this happen when the Love Committee gives way to the freakbeat bass music of Opiuo -- a DJ from Australia who played his first-ever playa set midweek at Entheon Village, on the heels of weird wobblie grooves from Heyoka and Vibesquad. I expect many of these artists to make Fundi's Best of the Year list in a few months, cuz they so good. I been listening to some of these albums over & over & over again. The songs in this mix are all pretty new except for the Band of Horses tracks -- hitched my wagon to their sounds only recently. Much funk and hip hop, blended with introspective folk and some modern blues.

"Summersauce Doubleshots" features The Roots, Band of Horses, The Black Keys, Janelle Monae, Big Boi, Quantic , Jack Johnson, Bonobo, Aloe Blacc, M.I.A., Flying Lotus, The Tallest Man in the World, Trombone Shorty and Josh Ritter.

The Podcast Cafe has been celebrating his vast musical legacy these past few weeks with the release of several Jerry-lovin' podcasts: High Time: Garcia on Stage 1, Lazy River Road: Garcia in the Studio, Dark Star : Garcia on Stage 2 and now this, the third mix of our very favorite live Jerry jams.

...We'd also like to remind our listeners that we've posted other Jerry-related offerings in years past that you can still access, including some archival recordings of a call-in radio show on KLCC:

I was living in Bend, Oregon at the time, and was awoken out of bed with the bad news. After contacting beloved friends with whom I had shared many a Dead show, I tuned the stereo to KLCC 89.7 FM, the Dead-friendly college radio station broadcasting from Eugene. They were playing nothing but Jerry's music, and we listened through the day. For some reason, I dropped a cassette tape in and hit record. This podcast is drawn from that dusty old tape, recently found in the archives deep in the garage and brought in to the 21st century by way of modern technology.

Acess part one here and part two here.

I've been pondering what holds all of this really disparate and varied music together, why the mix sounds so cohesive to my ears even though it doesn't look like it should work if you scan the playlist.

Part of the harmony of the many is, to my ears, a prioritization of the rhythm of the song. ... Some pieces are rather abstract -- I love to play with soundscapes and create moods and atmospheres -- but still have the ghosts of a rhythm floating through them.

Also: these songs feel REAL to me. like REAL musical expressions from REAL people expressing REAL emotions. I am attracted to that quality in music no matter what the genre: authenticity, integrity, soul.

...Even though the styles and sounds are all over the map, they share some kind of sexy charge, some languid hotness, attitude and life-force juju. It must be the always-teasing rhythms and slightly-agitated grooves that get me all hot and bothered.

...Listen for that underlying swing (different from the swagger) -- better yet, just feel it by swaying your hips to the music, dancing across the floor.

Here's a special treat for you on this special day: an hour-and-a-half of live performances from Jerry Garcia, drawn from Grateful Dead and JGB shows from across the decades, mixed up and served just right by DJ Fundi.

This is the first in a multi-part series of Garcia mixes -- we have several hours of our very favorite Jerry jams to share with you over the spring and summer as we draw near to the anniversaries of Jerry's birthday and death date. As you'd expect, DJ Fundi has conducted deep research in to creating these grateful journeys -- finding out what is considered the kindest version of "Scarlet Begonias" into "Fire on the Mountain", for example, and then hunting down that performace to share with you. With a deep love for the man, and a profound respect for the gift of these live performances, Fundi has curated something special here, and we hope you dig it as much as we do.

It's a casual night here at the Podcast Cafe, not too many people out and about on these drizzly nights, but we've got a fire goin' in the hearth, frothy beverages and musical terrain to explore together.

Thing is, Fundi has barely if at all listened to most of these releases, so he's spinning on intuition and belief in the beauty of randomness, often picking tracks simply by a title that tickled his fancy. Some of it will be good, some great, but it is the spirit of the journey that matters most : a deep-diving musical safari over the landscape of new music discovered here in the winter doldrums of February 2010.

This mix features several double-shots from albums that are too laden with goodies to pick just one (The Bird and the Bee's new record is so juicy they scored an unbelievable quadruple-shot of selections.) DJ Fundi recorded this mostly on-the-fly, with minimal edits and no overdubs or fancy sonic trickery.

Such a blessing to have so much varied music to explore and engage all our lives, our musical tastes evolving as we ourselves evolve, learning and growing to the tempo of a reliable groove.

DJ Fundi recorded this mostly on-the-fly, with minimal edits and no overdubs or fancy sonic trickery.

Such a blessing to have so much varied music to explore and engage all our lives, our musical tastes evolving as we ourselves evolve, learning and growing to the tempo of a reliable groove.

oxoxo

</itunes:summary>

Bass Chakra Therapy * The Wobble Chronicles Vol. 1

Editor's note: This podcast is a special rebroadcast from DJ Playaduster and our friends over at www.destinationburningman.com. It features music not normally heard here at the Podcast Cafe -- parlez vous de Whomp? -- and we're pretty sure you're gonna dig it!

...This mix is an overview of the electronik sounds I am currently filling my head with, including several DJs I learned about for the first time at Burning Man 2009. Heavy San Francisco emphasis here, naturally, as that is where my favorite grooves are coming from these days. Special guests include Maketa, Scotty G. and Suga Cubed, recorded both in Black Rock City and on the road to home post-Burn, decompressing and reorienting from the Best Burn Ever. This is one of my favorite mixes I've ever spun out -- I really dig the flow between tracks and between sections and the sacred womp of the bass is cleansing to my soul. Hope you dig it too.

From the fourth corner, we travel outwards over a diverse terrain of tracks, most of which are new on the scene from the past month or so. Several are lifted from the "Dark Was the Night" double-album, which I highly recommend you purchase (proceeds go to AIDS research and prevention via the Red Hot Organization.)

Bon Iver, Kid Cudi with Ratatat, Modest Mouse, Monsters of Folk, Sharon Jones & the Dapp Kings, Fever Ray with Bassnectar, Feist with Ben Gibbards, The Decemberists, David Byrne with Brian Eno, Beats Antique, M. Ward, Sufjan Stevens, Iron & Wine, Thom Yorke, Yim Yames and Q-Tip are the elements of this mix, which skews heavily towards man-rock and beard-folk for some unknown reason. As it turns out, Sharon Jones and the Fever Ray singer are the one female representatives here -- they holds their own, I'd say.

I'd like to close by quoting Built to Spill from a new song, "Things Fall Apart," which I think are some of the most authentic lyrics I've heard in years:

...Let's go for a walk. yeah, let's go for a drive

...Let's go for a lifetime. let's go for a fling

I was meditating on evolution while spinning out this set, particularly how species develop at different paces in different places around the planet. I love how one bird species, for example, will look and behave totally different from continent to continent, morphing form and behavior to match the physical ecosystem. But I also appreciate how all of life shares a common foundation, animated by the mysterious cosmic spark.

...I love how indigenous music is fitted to a particular place -- how the heat and aridity of Mali, the rhythm of the waves in Jamaica, the humid fecundity of Columbia have each inspired their own musical traditions. And I also love the ways in which some artists combine and blend those traditions in new and surprising ways. ... That's some of the thinking going on behind the scenes here at Radio dBM in the production of this here mix.

Parts 1 and 2 are posted at http://podcastcafe.org/episodes. I first thought it would take only one session to spin out my favorite MJ tracks in memorial of his surprising passing, but the first set started to get longy before I even in to "Bad," and so got split in to two sets.

But then, in cyberspace explorations for MJ music, I kept finding amazing material to work with: early Jackson 5 basement jam sessions, dance floor remixes, rough demos, alternate takes, etc., and my appreciation for his output over his nearly 50 years as a performer grew -- at the end of the second set, I still had all kinds of oddities and gems to share, like a reggae remix of "Ben," the lost "Thriller"-era track "Cheater" and "Off the Wall" B-sides. I also had yet to include "We Are the World" or "Man in the Mirror," which I felt like were essential pieces of this puzzle (I tried to keep them interesting by using a rough demo and live version). So, needless to say, a third set was spun and is being released to the people approximately two weeks after this whole tribute series was initially started.

Unlike the first two, this session is not chronological, but instead bounces around the different versions of MJ according to feel instead of timeline. To me, it feels a bit less cohesive than the story I've told of his musical evolution in the first two sets, but still has plenty to tell and is not to be missed.

I envision Michael Jackson dance parties happening around the planet to the soundtrack of joyful music I've weaved together here. I appreciate the positive feedback I've heard from many listeners in diverse corners and hope that those who appreciate these mixes will share them widely with friends.

Michael Jackson's story is a very complicated, weird, mysterious and, ultimately, tragic. Some think his troubles originate in his childhood at the hands of his father, other argue that he brought it all on to himself. "Blame it on the Boogie" sidesteps all of these debates and instead focuses on the unmatched legacy of Michael Jackson's music -- his original blending of Motown, disco, r&b, funk and soul, spiced up with a huge amount of confident showmanship. MJ was a musical genius who created a huge body of uplifting, emotionally moving, booty-rocking music, and I hope this tribute trilogy helps remind listeners of how, beneath all the controversy, MJ was an extremely and sensitive gifted artist.

Feedback: djfundi@podcastcafe.org

</itunes:summary>

Blame it on the Boogie : A Tribute to Michael Jackson (Part 2)

Part 2 of my Michael Jackon Tribute series picks up where Part 1 ends, delving back in to the "Thriller" era before committing to an extended appreciation of "Bad" and then dropping in on a fast-paced, booty-rockin' exploration of MJ's underappreciated Late Period. I had no idead he was still putting out such amazing and ground-breaking music post-"Bad," tracks like "Scream", "They Don't Care About Us", "2 Bad", "Xscape" and "Jam." Like Part 1, this mix tells the MJ story through nontraditional tracks: home demos, remixes, dubs and rare tracks. I've been listening to both constantly these past 2 weeks, with mad appreciation for MJ's gift of groove to the world.

Against my better judgement, I had to start a third (and hopefully final!) installment in the tribute series. As I was mixing this one up, I kept finding amazing remixes and rarities online, but I wanted Part 2 to come in at under 80 minutes so it could be burned to CD, and the incoming rush of MJ music had to spill over in to a 3rd mix. A Michael Jackson "Trilogy" was unplanned when I first started out, but that is what this process has naturally evolved in to, so there it is. The man just put out too much great music -- blame it on the boogie!

Eventually, we reach "Thriller," looking at half of the album's hits from various different perspectives, before running out of time at the 79:45 mark -- just the right length to be able to burn this mix to CD. Part two, to be released in a couple of weeks, picks up with the second half of Thriller and runs through various side projects and the most intriguing sounds from his later releases.

...There are many, many remixes of Michael floating around out there in cyberspace, and I chose a wide variety of reinterpretations: some ready to bump your booty, some corny and others just plain weird. I reveled in the wide, creative diversity of remixes that MJ inspired, and listening to them over the past week, it dawned on me just how universal his music was -- there was an essential DNA of heart, soul and groove in just about everything he performed, and those core elements were able to be fit in and reprogramed in all kinds of musical scenarios.

...I try to withhold judgement for all his oddities and naivete -- I feel like society pushed him in to the corner he was trapped in and we have no right to judge him.

...Instead of getting swept up in the media frenzy of the past week -- the endless analysis of his finances and prescription drug use and relationship with his family and fate of his children -- I have turned to the music to remember. ... And my full immersion in Michael's glorious art -- "I'll Be There," "Ease on Down the Road," "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough," "Billie Jean," "Smooth Criminal," "Jam" -- has reminded me that MJ was, ultimately, a bright light, brighter than most of us here on Planet Earth.

...I might be getting carried away now, but hearing him sing the bridge in "Human Nature" makes me feel like Michael, in his heartfelt surrender to his muse, was channeling the divine spirit.

...This musical mix, to be released in two parts to keep it manageable, is my tribute to MJ and all that he gave.

<itunes:author>DJ Fundiduster @ Samish Island Beat Farm</itunes:author><itunes:category text="music"/><itunes:keywords>michael jackson, michaeljackson, king of pop, mj tribute, michael jackson podcast, michael jackson music</itunes:keywords><itunes:summary>This musical journey starts with some selections from the Jackson 5, of course, before exploring his early solo career, with a multifaceted look at "Off the Wall" and his original melding of disco grooves with Motown soul. The old soundsystem, aka 5-year old MacBook, is starting to wear down and its memory banks are brimming over. The headphones recently stopped working and the music vault is straining. The whole shebang starts to smoke everytime Fundi gets deep down in to the groove, and that is unacceptable work conditions. The soundsystem can't take the strain of DJ Fundi's heavy podcasting habit and so the Cafe crew looking to upgrade to a system with more horsepower -- the better to power the Podcast Cafe!

Give a little and watch it come back to you with more musical blends to tantalize your earholes and frontal lobe. In 3 years, between all of his channels here at the Podcast Cafe and his work for www.destinationburningman.com, Fundi, sometimes in the bewigged guise of DJ Playaduster, figures he has somehow cranked out 60-70 podcasts. No kiddin'. That averages something like 2 per month, which is ridiculous. If you've been a beneficiary of this musical manna, then we hope you'll consider donating something like a 20 dollar bill to the Podcast Cafe PayPal account and help us upgrade the soundsystem for the next 60-70 podcasts.

Eugene was intimately intertwined to Jerry and the Grateful Dead for me: I saw my first shows at Autzen Stadium with Waterdog in 1990, a month out of high school, and returned for several more glorious Autzen runs over the years -- every single show I saw there was stellar and my memories are vibrant with sunburnt faces on smiling friends, the lazy Willametter River, the distant green hills (Kesey Country to the south), road trips, hot veggie burritos & ice cold beer, camping in the tall grass and the best summer music I ever done heard.

The sound quality of this podcast ain't nothing to brag about, and many crucial Jerry tracks are not represented here -- Dark Star, Terrapin Station, Stella Blue, Scarlet to Fire, Standing on the Moon, Eyes of the World. What this recording does offer up is a historical document of minor note, a time capsule holding some of the wistful grief that overtook tens, maybe hundreds, of thousands of people around the planet on that day in early August way back in 1995.

...(At the last minute, I decided I had to throw in my own personal closing track -- couldn't leave the sad voices of listeners calling in to KLCC be the last note! “Fare thee well, fare thee well, I love you more than words can tell.

Hearts of Flame : Burning Man Tribute I

For everybody who wishes they could be On Playa this year but cannot -- myself included -- I humbly offer this set of music as a tribute. Sounds come at you from all sides at all times, different rhythms and grooves colliding with the cadences of storytelling and the hushed tones of sacred ceremonies. It is an aural orgy. Here in the Pacific Northwest, somewhere in between autumn and winter, Sunnyland Studio has been deluged with rain, hammered by wind and buried under snow, but the groove is alive and well and tonight we're dishing it up in generous servings.

There are all sorts of various theories out there that make attempts at explaining the physics (and metaphysics) of this common phenomenon, but it is not Fundi's intentions to dig in to them just right now. The Podcast Cafe is here tonight simply to bring the grooves together in a discerning fashion and to serve them up as a soundtrack for your next kitchen dance party.

Trust us -- the ingredients have to be just perfect to really get the kitchen dance floor moving in harmony. It takes skills as well as no small amount of intuition to get things just right, and to keep them right all night.

So, no matter if you are gathering with friends and family over bamboo, tile, linoleum or even recycled marmoleum, this soundtrack for a kitchen dance party has been fine-tuned to suit all your celebratory funk, soul and rhythm and blues needs. The Marce loved it. ... That was enough to call it an aural success story.

But here, in the dawn of 2007, times are different. ... Correspondingly, this episode of the Podcast Cafe ain't your mama's Frisell. ... In this postmodern sound reconstruction, DJ Fundi rifles through the major works of Bill Frisell's catalog since 1995 or so -- and a prodigious catalog it is -- and susses his way through a dozen studio albums, 2 ilicit live recordings, a download-only release and a few mystery tracks.

Fundi surprises even hisself with this continuous sound blend, intoxicated with the many moods of Frisell's emotive guitar playing. Deep in the bowels of the mix, Fundi came upon the vision of Frisell's creations as paintings, and he saw his mix efforts as a sonic collage of bits and pieces of Frisell's artwork.

Listen then, preferably with headphones on yer head, to the exquisite expressions of a masterly painter who swirls sounds and colors with his trusty 5-string, and float away on the nearly-cinematic musical journey prepared special for you by the good folks down at Podcast Cafe.

But in episode 18 -- "local drizzle" -- Fundi plays it pretty straight (for once) and serves up something fairly traditional.

Flavors range from the classics -- Donald Byrd, Hank Mobley, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone -- to newer players on the scene, like Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau and Manu Katche. throw in some masters that span several epochs, like Charles Lloyd, John Scofield and Herbie Hancock, and now you got something to work with! Deft use of unique spicings -- moody scandanvian and french players, tablas and a grand piano, off-kilter and right in the pocket -- makes this a soundscape you'll turn to often.

You can witness the birth of this new project at www.destinationburningman.com, where you can also show your appreciation for the Podcast Cafe by making a pledge online at the Support page. If you've been loving the past year of podcasting from the friendly folks at the Cafe, help Fundi bring the mystical groove to Burning Man 2007 by donating a bit of cash to the cause.

Whatever you donate at www.destinationburningan.com will go towards the funding of Burning Man-related proects, including dance domes, the distribution of ice-cold Schmidts on-playa and a mobile "killawatt powa" dub selecter system. As a donor, you can become a human sponsor providing livesaving dusted dub beats to music starved individuals lost in the sands of techno at Burning Man.

We are serious here folks. The Podcast Cafe has been serving it up for free for a year now, and we're turning to our faithful listeners to support the next leg of the unfolding journey. While you enjoy this collaborative podcast from Fudi and Edubious, visit www.destinationburningman.com, click on "Support" and donate a few dollars to a very worthy cause. We'll keep you updated via blog and podcasts on the unfolding journey to Burning Man 2007, and we'll keep the fresh, juicy mixes coming your way.

The campfire was central, and the glow sticks were a pleasing diversion. They were visited in the night by a French pirate-chef, but no earwigs penetrated their inner sanctum. Just before the first light of a new day, an ancient salmon dance was invoked...

These Men of the Nooksack all hope to get to Black Rock City, home of Burning Man, this summer, and they hope to unleash the Pacific Northwest energy. They dream of bringing fresh beats and ice-col' Schmidties to the playa. You can help them share the Nooksack Vibrations by pledging your financial support to their mission.

Episode 2 jumps ahead six months and we find Johnny barreling across the state of Washington, from his outpost in the Inland Empire towards the danky northwest corner of the coastal realm. Once mossily ensconsed, and with freshly-scoured chapstraps, JB joins forces with Trail Rat and Fundi. Soon, the band of merry makers head out for Whitehorn Point on a reconnaisance mission. They are strapped to varying degrees and prepared for orgiastic clamjuice to penetrate their inner toe-sacs as they browse the primordial salad bar on the salty edge. Their "foggy arts colloquiam" ends with an order of some NOjitos at a seaside bar, and then they flee for the cozy safety of Lummi Island.

*the seeds are the new Beasties instrumental album and the John Medeski/Billy Martin (no Wood) duets == felt strongly that I needed to get these grooves out in to the world stet.

*The run of Sly & the Family Stone comes by way of MicroMoog Laboratories -- the good folks down at the Portland branch sent us the entire S&tFS discography in remastered condition and with bonus unreleased tracks galore -- MML also supplied us with the freshy-fresh Beastie Boys.

*Kidd Logic has granted the DJ Fundi Podcasting Network exclusive digitizing rights to some of his most prized vinyl offerings and the archive commitee has been fairly swamped with new funk and jazz. The recently-reclaimed tracks from Bill Withers, the Headhuters, Parliament and Lonnie Liston Smith came from his valuable collection.

*Blue Scholars is brand new shit! I bought it at iTunes the night I laid out this mix -- all I can say is GODDAMN! Buy their music, go to their shows. Found the Zion I/the Grouch and Cut Chemist tracks too wandering around in the iTunes labyrinth.

I dedicate this mix to my good friends Joe & Jodi, leaving the shores of Lummi for the shores of China soon -- "keep a stride in your glide and dip in your hip..."

Seedheads are the key part of a plant’s appearance during autumn and winter—some are very dark, others very light; some have hard, definite shapes and others are wispy and nebulous. They look dramatic set against a backdrop of fading flowers, associate well with grasses and native plants, and are key components of the naturalistic garden in which every phase of a plant is enjoyed from first shoot to final decay.

(a melancholy, sentimental mix of old favorites crafted in the turn of the seasons...)
