Emancipator videos by Moontroll

I've been playing around with video editing lately, as well as the new album from Emancipator. Here are some fun videos I've come up with….

….and two more from before I got fancy:

Seriously, his new album "Dusk to Dawn" is one of the most beautiful suites of soul music I have ever heard!

Three different flavors of "Civilian"

I think Wye Oak's song "Civilian" is one of the best songs of the past decade, easy. I can't necessarily explain or quantify this statement. I just know it. Lately, I've been getting a Neil Young with Crazy Horse feeling from the tune, both lyrically and musically. Her guitar solo at the end of the electric version is simply one of the purest expressions my ears have heard in a very long time. And the words…..they really get to me deep down. Bless.

I am nothing without pretend
I know my thoughts
Can't live with them
I am nothing without a man
I know my faults
But I can hide them

I still keep my baby teeth
In the bedside table with my jewelry
You still sleep in the bed with me,
My jewelry, and my baby teeth

I don't need another friend
When most of them
I can barely keep up with
I'm perfectly able to hold my own hand,
but I still can't kiss my own neck

I wanted to give you everything
but I still stand in awe of superficial things
I wanted to love you like my mother's mother's mothers did
Civilian

Father John Misty

Love, love, loving this new record from Father John Misty on SubPop, aka J. Tillman, aka the former drummer of the Fleet Foxes. Bought the vinyl edition this week and it was a great investment -- the recording techniques and strategies cry out for analog, and check out this beautiful and insane packaging too. Got a feeling this record will be on a lot of Best of 2012 lists 6 months from now….
